Why This Is ImportantA 15-year-old teenager was caught on video being severely beaten in his high school class room for being gay. The attack occurred at Union-Scioto High School in Chillicothe, Ohio, and was caught on camera as fellow class members watched one teen wait for the victim to enter the room, push him to the ground, and continually punch him in the face. The victim suffered broken teeth and a possible concussion. The perpetrator was suspended for just 3 days.
Union-Scioto has no policy in place that specifically protects students from being bullied or attacked based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The Union-Scioto Local School District does have a policy that prohibits harassment based on sex, race, color, national origin, religion, disability, among others, but it does not specifically protect against harassment based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
Tell the Union-Scioto School District to protect LGBT students by prohibiting harassment based on sexual orientation and gender identity and to send a message that this beating was unconscionable by expelling the perpetrator!
I ask you all to please sign and pass this along. Currently it sits at around 86,000 signatures, but the goal is 150,000. Bullying is a very serious issue and one I take very much to heart, especially as a victim myself. And I encourage any of you out there to take action if you school does not have a policy regarding bullying. Remember that all forms of bullying, even cyber, are harassment and harassment is against the law. Please report any instances to your local police department. Never give up. Never think you are alone. And never, EVER, let anyone make you think your life is anything less than important!

Submission from mushroommagicc:
Its not that I thought I’d grow up to be a man
Its not that I thought I’d grow up to be a woman
From what I could tell neither of those categories fit me
I knew from a young age
That this Adam and Eve thing isn’t really working for me
I mean what about all the kinds of people in-between?
I wanna grow into something none of us has ever seen before
And gender is just one of the ways We’re Boxed in and Labelled
Before we’re ever able to speak who we dream we are
Who believe we’ll become like drum beats forever changing their rhythm
I am living today as someone I had not yet become yesterday
And tonight I will borrow only pieces of who I was today
To carry with me to tomorrow
No I’m not Gay
No I’m not Straight
And I’m sure in hell not Bisexual dammit
I am whatever I am when I am
Loving whoever you are when the stars shine
An who ever you be when the sun rises
Yes I like Girls
Yes I like Boys
Yes I like Boys who like Boys
I like Girls who wear toys
And Girls who don’t
Girls who don’t call themselves Girls
Crew cuts or curls or that really bad hair phrase cut in-between
I wanna bend in thousand directions
Like the Sun does
Like Love does
Like time stopped so hands of the clock
Could hold each other
We held each other like I held
These words for too any years
On the tip of my tongue
I am my Mother’s daughter
I am My Father’s son
I am Midnight Sun
Whoever I Am
Whoever I Become
Love Me
Love Me
Mod note: you can hear the poem in its entirety —with onscreen lyrics— here.
The government, in its narcissistic obsession in displaying its monopolization of force, will begin to criminalize voluntary charity in order to force more people into government assistance.
Members of the organization Food Not Bombs were in good spirits as they passed out corn on the cob, rice, beans and other vegetarian dishes to the homeless and hungry in an Orlando park. This cheer was interrupted when police officers on bicycles arrived and arrested five of the volunteers.
This is not the first time this scene has played out for members of Food Not Bombs.
Since June 1, a dozen members of the group have been arrested for violating a new Orlando city ordinance that prohibits sharing food with large groups in downtown parks more than twice a year.
The mayor of Orlando even branded them “food terrorists.”
Food Not Bombs is an international political organization that protests war, poverty and the destruction of the environment, according to their website. The group meets to distribute food twice a week in downtown Orlando’s Lake Eola Park.
They won a district court case to prevent the enforcement of the new ordinance , but the decision was overturned in the appellate court.
From 5 months ago, but still equally bullshit
…”Food Terrorists?”
reagan-was-a-horrible-president:
So an awful News Corp dude (Brian McMullen) said (Duh) awful stuff about why they were perfectly in the right to hack people’s bullshit. Anyway, his defense was this: “In 21 years of invading people’s privacy I’ve never actually come across anyone who’s been doing any good. Privacy is the space bad people need to do bad things in. Privacy is evil; it brings out the worst qualities in people. Privacy is for pedos; fundamentally nobody else needs it.”
This NPR piece, my first tip-off about it, was what set me off. It also includes him blackmailing a woman whose child had recently died.
Class act, Brian McMullen.
Class. Act.
“News of the World” is owned by Rupert Murdoch. And of course Murdoch also owns Fox “News.” Sleaze is the only thing these people know.
okay, probs the last i’ll say about this as i by and large really do watch this show for the music, and i really am not all that invested in the lives of any of the characters, but, just. just, no, this is not how you handle a storyline about a teenage girl being outed as a lesbian in small-town ohio, it’s just not, it’s just SO NOT.
so, here’s a list of everything that wasn’t okay about yesterday’s ep, and the reasons why it wasn’t okay!
- hi, was that an episode about a girl coming out as a lesbian that didn’t once actually use the word “lesbian”? i mean, correct me if i’m wrong, i only watched the episode the once and i was busy trying to lamaze breathe to calm myself, but i’m preeeeetty sure that was an episode about coming out as a lesbian that didn’t once use the word lesbian. not cool, glee! lesbian is not a dirty word; acting like it is just makes people think it is.
HAVE FUN DYING EARLY.
